So apparently there’s this movie called Avengers: Endgame coming out next month. Who knew? Guess they’ve just been doing a super low-key marketing campaign for it so far given the lack of hype.

Naturally the film is getting a China release — Marvel and Disney have been laying the groundwork for big takings in the world’s second largest box office for some time now — but what’s interesting is that it will open in the country two days earlier than in the US. It’s rare for a major Hollywood release to open in China around the same time as it launches overseas, let alone for Chinese fans to get to see it before their American counterparts.

That means there could be some astronomical amounts of money involved (y’know, in addition to the astronomical amounts of money already spent on it). As Deadline notes, “if Endgame were to perform on par with Infinity War — and note these are unadjusted numbers — it would be looking at an $840M worldwide opening to blast Iron Man and the gang past the all-time record they set in 2018.” Not bad, not bad at all.

Walt Disney Studios’ President of Marketing Asad Ayaz just shared this China poster featuring “the fallen” and demonstrating just how complicated this whole universe has become…

…but our favorite China-specific posters come in the form of some key Avengers gazing out at Shanghai’s Lujiazui skyline:

Each of the guys — and they are all guys — gets their own artwork too, with the Pearl Tower, Shanghai World Financial Center, and Shanghai Tower (the world’s second-tallest building) all featuring in the background:

Maybe they’re looking for Chinese superhero Shang-Chi? Or maybe it’s to do with the actors behind each of these characters being due to visit Shanghai in person for the China premiere of Avengers: Endgame in April.
