Managing Editor

The Managing Editor will report to the CEO, and is expected to manage and curate the RADII.co platform with engaging, insightful content that captures a growing audience of young readers all over the world. He/She will be responsible for overseeing the editorial team of editors, staff writers and freelancers.

In this role, the candidate will set the long-term editorial strategy, will be responsible for day to day management of the editorial team, will oversee commissioning, writing and editing, as well as work closely with RADII Studios team to co-develop scripts and treatments for feature and short form video projects. The Manageing Editor will also work with the Data and Marketing teams to iterate on and implement editorial strategy based on data and internal feedback. The ideal candidate is a pro-active, strategic-thinking, and well-rounded editor and team leader who lead the generation of unique and thought provoking topics to differentiate RADII’s positioning and brand as one that provides fresh perspectives into a dynamically changing Chinese youth culture.

This candidate should passionately devour news related to and outside of China, and have their finger on the pulse of trends and stories that resonate with young readers. He/She should also have a knack for commercialized and sponsored content, and be willing to work with Marketing and Business Development teams to generate marketing campaigns and sponsorship opportunities that are in line with RADII’s mission and target audience.

Most importantly, the candidate should have a strong desire to carry out RADII’s mission of creating new bridges of cultural understanding via original, incisive, and youthful reporting on the most relevant cultural topics of the day.


  • Managing the overall day to day operations of RADII editorial team, including hiring/firing, training, performance reviews, promotions, mentorship and skills development
  • Leading editorial strategy and planning for RADII across its various publishing platforms
  • Responsibility for ensuring team meeting/exceeds editorial performance targets and deliverables, by creating and enforcing deadlines
  • Approving or rejecting story pitches from writers, make final decisions on major projects when necessary
  • Codifying content creation process from writing through editing and publishing
  • Recruiting and maintaining relationships with ongoing database of freelance contributors
  • Final editing and publishing of written contributions
  • Working with data team to analyze user data and iterate editorial strategy based on user feedback, as well as improve user experience and fixing bugs
  • Working with video production team to develop story boards and scripts for multi-media programs
  • Working with Marketing team in generating necessary materials to pitch potential content partners and brand sponsors, and generate leads when necessary
  • Assist in the management of select social media channels by helping draft and edits postings
  • Coordinate with other team leads to allocate resources and align publication schedules
  • Assist in other company-wide tasks as and when needed, and represent the company at public-facing events and meetings


  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or related field
  • At least 5 years of full-time experience in editing, journalism, communications, digital media or related experience
  • Proven project management experience while driving multiple projects simultaneously
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills, and strong editorial judgement
  • Skilled in collaboration, multitasking, delivering under tight timelines, and adapting quickly to changing circumstances
  • Demonstrable experience working with brands, and/or project management experience developing digital platforms a plus
  • English language fluency required, Mandarin Chinese fluency preferred
  • A knowledge of contemporary China and youth trends in the country, and an ability to package these stories for an unfamiliar audience
