Shanghai-based illustrator Chen Fenda’s comic series about a little purple bat called Afu is beautifully realized. Based in a town that is also populated by by a man called Da and a tall brown otter called Ta, the series has developed into a world unto its own with its own ethical and moral laws.
Every great piece of work should have a great origin story. For Chen he found his inspiration for his small purple bat while he was living in the tiny attic of his sister’s apartment.
He tells us his story about building a comic universe based around a cute, caustic and witty purple bat.
