During the launch, Lei showcased a slide dubbing it the “graveyard of folding phones.” To perfect the ultra-durable design, the team dropped and destroyed over 1,500 engineering test units, undergoing more than 80,000 drop tests in total.

For China’s tech enthusiasts, who increasingly view smartphones as an extension of their personal style and status, this level of transparency is striking. It shifts the narrative from mere luxury pricing to hard-earned durability. The Xiaomi 18 Fold backs up the theatrics with heavy-hitting specs, including a new-gen Xuanjie O3 chip, a massive 6000mAh battery, and a top-tier Leica optical setup featuring a 200MP main camera and dual-screen live shooting capabilities.
