On March 31, iconic pop star Jackson Wang dropped his new single “Blow” mere weeks after surprising fans with the unannounced release of his mixtape Lost & Found.
In the music video for “Blow,” Wang is seen shrouded in smoke while surrounded by backup performers. In what is arguably the most memorable scene (and one that is likely to be spun into memes), the artist croons, “Don’t stop now, you got me ready to blow,” while the other dancers exhale smoke in perfect unison with the lyrics.
The new song, which is about fatal attraction, compares the addictive nature of love to that of cigarettes:
“You taste like cigarettes. I hit it every chance I get. Girl, you got me dripping sweat. You pull me back every time I quit.”
On Weibo, netizens viewed “Blow”’s music video more than 602,000 times in less than an hour.
Fans have predictably sounded off online, showing their zeal for Wang’s most recent work.
“We finally got a new song! The wait was worth it,” reads one comment.
One netizen was particularly into the music video’s smoke effects: “Blow the smoke my way! All of it!”
Born and raised in Hong Kong, Wang is easily one of China’s most successful stars today. The 27-year-old’s colorful career spans many categories — singer, rapper, dancer, and host — and with more than 26 million followers on Instagram and 30 million fans on Weibo, he casts a wide net of influence.
In an interview with Bandwagon, Wang shared that he would solely focus on music in 2022. The pop star even promised the release of two albums this year.
We look forward to seeing more material from the talented Mr. Wang!
