Shanghai Fashion Week AW2022 has been postponed amid the new coronavirus outbreak in the city and other parts of China, according to an official statement posted on Wednesday. The fashion event was originally scheduled to be held from March 25 to April 1, and new dates have not yet been announced.

According to the announcement, the fashion week’s organizing committee decided to postpone the event in response to the Covid control policies in Shanghai.

“The winter will eventually go away. Let’s wait for the flowers to come,” reads the last line of the poster below, metaphorically referring to the nationwide Covid outbreak.

Since the pandemic first hit, China has implemented a ‘zero-Covid policy.’ However, possibly due to the Omicron variant, the country has suffered from multiple rounds of outbreaks and lockdowns in recent months while the rest of the world is opening up.

According to Reuters, China reported 402 locally transmitted Covid-19 infections with confirmed symptoms on Thursday and an additional 435 domestically transmitted asymptomatic cases. That marks the highest daily case count since the country had its first national outbreak in early 2020.

Shanghai Fashion Week is arguably China’s most influential fashion event. This is the second year in a row that the event has been postponed due to Covid-19 outbreaks.
