Our Photo of the Day series this week shares photos of impressive modern megastructures in China.
Let’s take a look at China’s capital city, Beijing (or PEKing if you prefer). You’ve heard about the impressive Great Wall of China (and also the Great Firewall of China), but it has some impressive modern structures too — including its airport.
Here are some quick and dirty stats for you:
- In 2008, the third terminal was added just in time for China’s summer Olympics.
- Beijing Capital International Airport is the second largest airport in the world, and the sixth largest building in the world by area.
- The roof is designed to have “scales”, resembling the skin of a dragon.
