The sad news of Celine Dion’s health issues has caught the attention of Chinese netizens.

On November 9, Chinese media outlet Chengdu Economic Daily posted on Twitter-like Chinese social media platform Weibo that the beloved Canadian singer had canceled several concerts due to “severe and persistent muscle spasms.”

According to The Guardian, her Las Vegas concert residency was supposed to start last week.

The post immediately sparked reactions from Chinese netizens and was commented on more than 2,000 times.

At the time of writing, the hashtag ‘Celine Dion is Very Sick in Bed’ (#席琳迪翁患重病瘫痪在床#) was trending on Weibo and had reached 100 million views.

“We don’t expect that you will return to the stage; we just want to wish you a speedy recovery,” opined one netizen.

Another commented, “One of the three most talented vocalists is already gone, we can’t lose another one! Go, fight the illness and get well soon!” (The identity of the deceased singer being referred to is not divulged.)

“I still remember the time when she performed at the CCTV Spring Festival Gala wearing a full-length golden dress, breathtakingly gorgeous,” wrote another netizen.

Back in 2013, a year after Titanic 3D screened in China, the Grammy-award-winning singer was invited to perform the film’s theme song on China Central Television’s (CCTV) annual gala show.

According to state-owned media China News Service, almost 750 million people watched 2013’s annual gala.

Several bloggers have posted video clips of Celine Dion’s performance at the gala, where she also sang the famous Chinese folk song “Jasmine Flower” in Mandarin alongside Chinese music icon Song Zuying.
