Today’s photo is a work by Sichuan-born artist Peng Wei, featured earlier this year in her solo exhibition in the contemporary art gallery of the Suzhou Museum. Peng is known for her subtle subversion of traditional forms and media, such as the ink wash painting and tight calligraphic style depicted here, in the service of Modernist themes like materiality and memory. Some of the handwritten texts featured in this show are translations of letters by Western authors and thinkers, including Susan Sontag and Jorge Luis Borges.
