Chinese fans have expressed high hopes for the upcoming remake, although many have pointed out the performance of the original male lead — Taiwanese actor Greg Hsu — can never be matched

On March 31, Netflix confirmed the cast for its Korean remake of the hit Taiwanese drama Someday or One Day. The adaptation goes by a different title — A Time Called You — and will star the likes of Ahn Hyo-seop, Jeon Yeo-been, and Kang Hoon.

The drama is reported to air in 2023, but the exact date has yet to be announced.

Following a similar storyline as the original series, A Time Called You is also a time-slip romance. Jeon Yeo-been and Korean-Canadian actor Ahn Hyo-seop respectively play the heroine and the hero. The story starts by revealing that the latter tragically passed away in a plane crash a year ago.

Through mysterious circumstances, the heroine travels to the year 1998. Waking up in the body of a high school student, she meets a classmate who perfectly resembles her late boyfriend.

The romance drama might also be considered a thriller, as a murderer waits to be unmasked.

Someday or One Day was a global hit when released in Taiwan in 2019 and accumulated more than a billion views. The original series is also available on Disney+ today.

Chinese fans have expressed high hopes for the upcoming remake, with the related hashtag garnering 150 million views on the Chinese microblogging platform Weibo.

Even so, an overwhelming number of commenters have expressed their doubts that anyone could live up to the original male lead’s performance. Taiwanese actor Greg Hsu has evidently left big shoes for Hyo-seop to fill.

“I like the new cast! I’m looking forward to the remake,” reads one netizen’s Weibo comment. “Though I personally think Ahn Hyo-seop can’t surpass Greg Hsu’s performance.”

Another wrote, “The original show is legendary to me. When I think of the character, I will always think of Greg Hsu.”
