Yin (音, “music”) is a weekly RADII column that looks at Chinese songs spanning hip hop to folk to modern experimental, and everything in between. Drop us a line if you have a suggestion.

This one feels like a perfect change-of-the-season kind of vibe. Shanghai label Shengjian Records has just released a new single for Zoo Gazer, a laid back, lo-fi indie band that’s been emanating chill vibes out of Xuzhou in eastern Jiangsu province. Zoo Gazer describe themselves as “a casual indie band abusing major 7th chords and spring reverb,” and I couldn’t do any better.

Here’s their latest, “Insect Tweet By Tunnel Exit”:

The band adds about this one in particular: “People in the city always chasing the rapid life but forget to slow down their steps. We hope this tunnel might be the channel pass to the warm dream.” Amen.

Zoo Gazer debuted last year with a single in March followed by a self-titled EP the following month co-released by Shengjian and Guangzhou’s Qiii Snacks Records. If this kind of warm’n’fuzzy, feel-good, reverb-dripping indie pop is your thing, I’d recommend digging deeply into the discographies of both labels.

Check out more from Zoo Gazer at their Bandcamp page.
