Shanghai nightlife collective Love Bang, known for its fun cartoon aesthetic, club-friendly music and cat iconography, has been hosting parties across China for the past 10 years — and has finally gotten around to putting out its first release, Delivery.
Highlights from the record include Graphic Violence’s “Drunken Ghost,” which is drowning in fun musical samples, with glass shattering amidst the sound of bubbles. “Where U From?” is another fun track, blending footwork with a vocalist offering the refrain, “Huangpu, Xuhui, Changning, Jing’an, Putuo, Hongkou, Yangpu, Minhang” (all districts in Shanghai).
Speaking to the choice of name for the record, the label says in its press release, “2020, AKA The Year of Delivery. Waimai. Food delivery. Virus delivery. Vaccines. And now, at the end of 2020, Love Bang has something to deliver too.”
Delivery is a seven-track release that melds together a variety of genres, such as footwork, bass and more, with tracks from the likes of young DJ Gouachi, excellent Shanghai-based producer Swimful, as well as from the night’s founder Heatwolves.
