This week’s photo theme is China at SXSW 2018: a visual recap of a few bands and artists that represented at the first official China showcase to be held at long-running Austin, TX music industry conference South by Southwest. I was at the event as my band SUBS was one of the featured artists, and this week I’ll share some snaps from the front row.

Beijing festival favorites Second Hand Rose (二手玫瑰) closed out the evening in characteristically spectacular fashion. Actually talking about the sartorial fashion here — frontman Liang Long came on stage in full drag and operatic face makeup, as is his wont, and had assistants remove a heavy fur smock before revealing the spandex and rhinestone getup beneath that gave the band’s set a comprehensive glow-up. Second Hand Rose crushed it, giving the remaining, very enthusiastic audience an encore in the form of “Train Go Quickly” — my favorite recent song of theirs.
