After much anticipation—and our initial coverage of its announcement—Stephen Chow’s highly anticipated Kung Fu Soccer is officially out in theaters across China. Marking the legendary filmmaker’s return to the director’s chair after seven years, this action-comedy spin-off of the 2001 cult classic Shaolin Soccer is already causing a stir. To celebrate the release, the full-length trailer has finally dropped, offering fans a glorious glimpse of the absurd humor and heavy wire-fu action they’ve been waiting for.

Serving as a spiritual successor rather than a direct sequel, the film shifts focus to the underdog Emei Women’s Football Team. Led by captain Shuangshuang (Zhang Xiaofei) and striker Yu Long (Dilraba Dilmurat), with guidance from their mentor Xu Feng (Lay Zhang), the team must combine traditional martial arts with modern football tactics to conquer the prestigious “Supreme Invincible Cup.”

Hardcore Chow fans can expect his signature blend of deadpan comedy, jaw-dropping albeit over-the-top VFX set-pieces, and inspiring underdog themes. With a 100% fresh take on the kung fu-football formula—and a delightful cameo from Shaolin Soccer veteran Wong Yat-fei (Iron Head)—Kung Fu Soccer is poised to be this summer’s biggest cinematic goal.
