Drawing inspiration from Arthurian legend, Tides of Annihilation is an upcoming fantasy action-adventure game developed by Eclipse Glow Games, a Chinese studio based in Chengdu and backed by Tencent. Players will step into the shoes of Gwendolyn, the city’s last surviving inhabitant, who discovers the power to command England’s legendary Knights of the Round Table. Her journey is driven by a quest to save her sister and seek vengeance against the otherworldly invaders that have besieged a shattered London.
What’s unique about the AAA title is the gameplay. It centers around a unique knightly combat system, in which players can command a band of over ten legendary knights, each inspired by Arthurian lore and possessing distinct skills and abilities. This system allows for the crafting of personalized battle strategies and the execution of cooperative attacks, giving players full autonomy to build their own Order of Knights.
Eclipse Glow Games, the studio behind this ambitious project, is no stranger to large-scale entertainment projects. Comprising a team of 100 developers with experience in creating console and PC games for global audiences, the team has previously worked with renowned studios such as SEGA, Ubisoft, and Gameloft, contributing to titles like Yakuza 0, For Honor, Assassin’s Creed, Persona, and Prince of Persia.
Tides of Annihilation was officially announced during the recent PlayStation State of Play event in February 2025. While a specific release date has not been disclosed, it’s slated for launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC platforms via Steam and the Epic Games Store. The developers have indicated that players can expect an immersive playtime exceeding 30 hours.
In a recent incident highlighting the anticipation surrounding the game, it was mistakenly listed as available for purchase on the Microsoft Store. Eager fans who attempted to buy the game were met with a placeholder file, leading to subsequent refunds. Notably, this event underscores the excitement and eagerness within the gaming community for the upcoming release.
Tides of Annihilation is among the projects helmed by Chinese developers launching this year. Building on the worldwide acclaim of Black Myth: Wukong last year, expectations are high for Chinese gaming companies to deliver the next big hit and rival Western competition. For now, time will tell if 2025 becomes another stellar year of Chinese gaming.
