Seemingly out of nowhere, actor and comedian Jimmy O. Yang has dropped what might be his most unhinged and brilliantly dry project to date: a mockumentary short titled Pablo Escobar of Lizard (or “Lizard Hunter,” apparently)

Stepping far outside of his usual comedic wheelhouse, Yang plays a Malaysian-based scraggy, delightfully eccentric character radiating pure Tiger King energy—if Joe Exotic dealt in reptiles instead of big cats. Complete with a grimy aesthetic and a deadpan delivery, Yang takes on the persona of an underground lizard kingpin navigating a bizarrely compelling slice of Americana.

The project, which embraces the gritty, highly saturated visual language of a true-crime doc, was surprisingly teased across social media with Yang tagging heavy-hitters like A24, HBO, and VICE. While the A24 and HBO tags might be a cheeky nod to the golden era of prestige mockumentaries, it’s VICE that’s officially hosting the madness. Fans can head directly to VICE’s channel to watch the full short film in all its dry-humor glory.

For a comedian best known for his lovable roles in Crazy Rich Asians, Silicon Valley, and Arrested Development, Pablo Escobar of Lizard feels like a new flex of Yang’s creative range. Whether this is a one-off skit or a backdoor pilot for a larger series, one thing is certain: all hail the Lizard King.

(Btw, we know we mentioned that the short film can be screend on VICE, but you can actually watch the whole thing below. You’re welcome.)
