What do you do when you're a Chinese streetwear brand and can't attend Paris Fashion Week in person? Head to China's fake Paris of course

Cutting-edge streetwear brand Sankuanz just dropped an arresting new video to launch its A/W 2021 collection. Premiered tonight as part of Paris Fashion Week Online, the Feng Liang-directed video mixes together a fake Eiffel Tower, a model resembling Pinhead from Hellraiser, plus a pulsing soundtrack from Chengdu band Stolen.

The label took over residential development Tiandu Cheng (Sky City) on the outskirts of Hangzhou in eastern China to showcase its sexy af A/W 2021 looks, which continue the punk, sometimes cyberpunkish, spins on streetwear that the brand has made its name with.

Founded in the southeastern Chinese city of Xiamen in 2013, Sankuanz has won the hearts of Billie Eilish and Bella Hadid among others, all while it “stays true to the flavor of China’s underground — and the cool kids that populate it,” as we wrote in our profile of the label last year.

One way in which it’s manifesting that is through ongoing collaborations with Stolen, a band who have toured with New Order. Sankuanz has designed a limited edition range of merch for the Chengdu dance-rock outfit, while in turn the band have remixed certain songs to soundtrack the streetwear label’s shows and collection launches.

And if the backdrop to this video looks familiar — and not just because, well, it looks a bit like one of Europe’s most famous landmarks — it’s probably because the bizarre residential complex was also the setting for the music video to Jamie xx’s “Gosh,” directed by Romain Gavras.
