This year’s 24th #Shanghai International #FilmFestival, or #SIFF, ran from June 11 to June 20 across 40 theaters in the city, showcasing more than 400 domestic and international movies. The event was so popular that 270,000 tickets were sold in the first five hours. Why are people so excited about SIFF?

It is one of China’s longest-running major cinema events and has historically been the country’s most internationally-minded festival. It was born in 1993 and recognized as the first and only international non-specialized competitive film festival in China a year later.

What do Chinese youth think of SIFF? We asked some film lovers about their thoughts on this year’s festival, their film tastes, and what they think about China’s movie industry becoming the biggest in the world.
