Ever wonder how young Chinese creatives see the world? Many are choosing to share their perspectives through photography, and not just on their cellphones.

We spent a day in conversation with Hui Choi, a Guangzhou-based film photographer, who is also the founder of two creative spaces — a darkroom film store, BATH ROOM, and his own creative studio, PUSH PULL.

“Most men, when they look at women, usually do so with an aggressive perspective. But in my visual work, I remove that aggression, making it more restrained,” says Hui. Breaking with traditional photographic styles, Hui explores the stereotypes of social norms and perceptions surrounding young people. Under the roofs of Hui’s creative spaces, a new generation of Chinese creatives is encouraged to share their work and the thoughts behind it  with a global audience.
