Hey this is cool: WuQiong, an underground rock venue in the central Chinese city of Xi’an, has just put a 360° VR tour up on the old internet. Opened just over a year ago and operated by Liu Peng, lead singer of Xi’an band FAZI, WuQiong has quickly become a reliable stop for touring artists from across the country, hosting shows for FAZI’s Maybe Mars label-mates such as Hiperson and Alpine Decline, roving bands of itinerant punks like Wuhan legends SMZB and the lineup of the Xi’an Punk Fest, plus local organizers such as DJ and promoter gunknown, who has a hard time slotting into other EDM-heavy venues around town.
The virtual tour — optimized for VR headsets and set to the duclet strains of early Sonic Youth — begins at the venue’s front entrance and lets you click/drag your way around a main stage and back-room merch/bar area. Take a spin here, and if you find yourself in Xi’an and want to take an IRL look, find the club’s listings on WeChat (@wuqiongliveclub).
