Vancouver-based producer Yu Su is back with a new single, the first from her upcoming album Yellow River Blue. The album is the first on new Beijing-based label bié Records, a label she is co-launching and which aims to “showcase the emergent and diverse musical flavourings from the far reaches of China.”

On the single, entitled “Xiu,” Yu Su invites Gong Gong Gong‘s Joshua Frank for bass duties. The atmospheric track is a tightly-paced affair with gorgeous pipa-like strings and layered, playful vocals. The single also comes with a digital “palace” version featuring Xiamen producer Knopha.

The preview for the music video for “Xiu” is also online, which you can catch below:

Yu Su, who was born in Kaifeng in Henan province in northern China, is currently based in Vancouver. Yellow River Blue is set to be fully released on January 22, 2021, with Dutch label Music from Memory distributing it throughout Europe and North America. The record follows on from some excellent, diverse releases from the producer in the last couple of years, such as “Watermelon Woman” on London imprint Technicolour and Roll With the Punches on Music from Memory.

Yellow River Blue was made in the aftermath of Yu Su’s China tour in 2019, with the producer traveling from Qingdao on the eastern coast of the country to Xining, the capital of Qinghai province on the Tibetan plateau in the west.
