On the evening of June 24, RADII took over Madame Ching—arguably Shanghai’s best spot for the most creative Cantonese fusion you’ll ever have—for a mixer, bringing great eats, craft cocktails, solid music, and even better people together for one of the more memorable nights the restaurant has seen.

The event kicked off at 6:30 PM with the “Smugglers Challenge,” a food game that put guests’ palates to the test and set the tone for an evening built around discovery and play. Dinner followed at 7 PM, with the kitchen turning out Madame Ching’s signature small plates: think contemporary Cantonese tapas shaped by Chef Wong’s boundary-blurring approach to the cuisine he grew up with. Dishes ranged from the indulgent—a 30-hour slow-cooked bone-in short rib in char siu sauce—to the playfully reinvented, like a hargow katsu sandwich and wok-fried broccolini with yuzu labneh foam.
By 8:30 PM, the DJ had taken over, and the already lively energy upshifted.

Winners of the game walked away with dinner vouchers for Madame Ching, while runners-up took home bottles of Peddlers Gin and a round of drinks from The Treasury, the restaurant’s in-house bar whose cocktail menu draws on the South China Sea travels of the pirate after whom the restaurant is named.

More than a hundred guests moved through the space over the course of the night—a cross-section of Shanghai’s expat community, local creatives, and media—and next time, don’t forget your resumé! Those who had RSVP’d in advance were greeted with a complimentary drink upon arrival. It definitely pays to be early, so keep up with upcoming events by following our Instagram.

The event marked the second time this year that RADII had touched down in Shanghai, building momentum following its much-anticipated return to the city the month prior. More events are coming—and if this night at Madame Ching is any indication, RADII is back and better than ever.
